Course content

Network structure of various oxide glasses, Stevel?s parameters and kinetic criterion of glass formation. Role of oxides in glass composition. Melting, refining and forming of oxide glasses. Viscoelastic behaviour and mechanical properties. Thermal, dielectric and optical properties of glasses. Coloured and photosensitive glasses; glass fibre technology. Glass-ceramics, glasses for electronic applications. Preparation of metallic glasses by rapid solidification. Synthesis of amorphous alloys by mechanical alloying. Properties and applications of amorphous alloys. Microcrystalline and nanocrystalline materials.
