MM 203 – Mechanics of Materials
The pre-midsem part deals with the technology behind the important metal forming operations. The primary forming processes covered include rolling, extrusion, forging, wire drawing and sheet-metal forming. The post-midsem part deals with ‘Case Studies’, wherein the thermo-mechanical processing of some important products is analysed. Examples include aluminium beverage cans, steel for car body applications & zirconium alloys for the nuclear industry.
Mechanical Metallurgy: George E. Dieter (Pre-midsem) & Thermo-Mechanical Processing of Metallic Materials: Bert Verlinden, Julian Driver, Indradev Samajdar, Roger D. Doherty (Post-midsem).
